It's coming to the end of bat season 2024 but keep an eye on the website, or on Facebook, for any upcoming events.
Bats are very sensible mammals. They don't like cold weather, they don't like windy weather, and they don't like wet weather. So all bat walks/surveys will depend on good weather conditions. Please check to ensure that the event hasn't been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
On Friday 1st September 2023, there was a bat walk at Guisborough Forest Walkway, here's what we found:
David Stocks: "A good night at Guisborough foest walkway yesterday despite a little drizzle. Well over 100 bat passes recorded including Pipistrelle, Noctule and Daubenton."
On Friday 16th June 2023, Cleveland Bat Group joined in with a bioblitz at Scaling Dam, here are the results:
Over 200 individual passes recorded
5 species identified - a single whiskered bat, 2 daubentons, 3 nasthusius pipistrelle, 45 common Pipistrelle and 100 + Noctule.
The location of each pass is illustrated by the attached screen grabs from and EM2.
Most pipistrelles recorded at or around the yacht club, Daubenton and Nathusius pips recorded close together on bank at yacht club end, the whiskered bat and some noctules in wooded area close to Whitby end car park - vast majority of noctules recorded ( and sighted!) all along bank close to main road.
We also enjoyed some crafts with young people who visited our table on the Saturday.
